After a successful 30+ year career as a graphic designer, I began to become frustrated with the new technologies and the changing landscape of the design field. I slowly began to paint more and more and now I’ve become, with a few exceptions, a full-time painter.
My creative process is ever-evolving. After six years of hard work and focus on painting, I’ve realized that I spent my entire design career designing like a painter, and ironically I now paint like a designer. The simplicity and graphic nature of my work is informed by a few of my favorite artists: Charles Demuth, David Hockney, Alex Katz and Francois Bard.
Competitive by nature, I am constantly working to hone my painting techniques to align with my own personal sense of artistic balance and tension. It’s my goal to make each painting better than the last.
artist statement
Nostalgic distillation. Graphic representation. Unexpected composition. Vivid color.
My paintings are largely informed by my design career. Though I did not set out to be constrained by a certain style, one has emerged. Through hard work, a competitive nature, and a pinch of irony, my work has become a series of glimpses past and present.
I paint brief notions of what interests me. I want the viewer to see, feel, and enjoy without needing to know why.
